Mirror’s Edge is maybe the most unexpected game I thought I would never play. Well, here I am making a review of it. I know a lot of you people have made your thoughts and opinions known about this game, so I’m just going to throw my two cents into the matter and make a review of it.
Let’s start with the story. The plot takes place in a corrupt city where a totalitarian regime has taken over and is monitoring everyone in the city. You play as Faith, who’s job is to be a Runner and send messages from point A to point B without being caught. During your job, Faith’s sister is framed for the new upcoming candidate for Mayor’s murder. It is up to you to find out what is going on and to stop it.
The game play style is in the form of a first person shooter but the innovative thing about this is that you run and jump from building to building in a first person view. A cool game play mechanic is that you get to cling and climb onto things that are highlighted red and can get to places faster by doing stuff like wall jumping and etc. If anyone who hasn’t played this game is wondering, yes, you can use a gun, but you only get to use it once, and you will be forced to pick up another gun to use by either knocking out or shooting the grunts. Even though you can’t keep re-using a gun, you’re forced to run, rather than point and shoot, which I kind of like. It gives us a fresh look at first person shooters.
The graphics are pretty amazing, and I love how there is a kind of pop culture color look and it’s better than seeing the gritty gray colors you would see in most of the PS3 games. The in-between level cut scenes are also pretty cool and they remind me of more well funded E-surance commercials. There are multiple plot twists and shocking parts of the game, which will keep you on your feet and keep you moving. Seriously though, you have to keep moving in the game or else. Even though I’m not a big first person shooter fan since I’m not good at them, it did help me to get better using guns in games like Resistance Fall of Man.
Now it’s time to run and jump through the bad parts of the game. The game kind of runs on a trial and error style of game where you only get better when you die and then get past that part and die again and etc. That can be pretty annoying when I need to run from soldiers and such. Sometimes, you can’t really tell where you need to go, and sometimes you can end up going the wrong way or dying. Even though you can get a hint of where you need to go, the hints aren’t really that clear, resulting in more people getting lost. The combat is very weak, even though you need to run more than shoot.
Overall, this is a pretty good game. I would recommend renting this game before buying it to see what you think about it. This game will separate people who like different games and FPS games. This game though is another great addition to the PS3 or 360 library.
This game gets a 7.9 out of 10.
Gungrave was a totally underrated game on the Playstation 2. I recently found out that there was a sequel to the game called Gungrave Overdose and I got really excited to play a sequel to a great game. I put it on my game Q and after two days I got the game. So is this sequel better or just as good as the last game? Lets find out!
The plot of this game takes place 3 years after the events of the first game. The main female character Mika Asagi is now on the search for areas who still produce the deadly drug SEED that has been taking over innocent peoples lives. Of course she can’t do this all by her self. During her journey she meets a mysterious young man named Spike who is a bit of a technical wiz as the two of them go and find and get the aid of the most insane character of the game, the walking corpse Gungrave. This time though they have some lets just call them special friends to help out with the take down of the main Villains. The first person is named Rocketbilly Redcadillac, a orange haired ghost wearing red who wields a electric guitar that can shoot lightning as he plays it. The second hero is Jyuji Kabane a blind dead man who wields a cross between pistols and katanas.
Now then onto the game play. Gungrave Overdose is set up just like the last game, a third person shoot em up where you go around very long levels and blow the tar out of everyone in sight. As you control grave you still have the crazy affective guns and coffin you can use to blow up your enemies and you can use your coffin for now more offensive attacks and can chain combos together with both weapons. The best thing about the game play in this game is that you get to destroy mainly everything in front of you meaning the environment can be destroyed to your liking. The only other game I have seen this style on is Wild Guns for the Super Nintendo. Now a very cool thing about this game is that you get multiple super moves like Gungrave can use his coffin like weapon as a rocket launcher, or he can slow down time and etc. RocketBilly can use his guitar as a sort of rail gun like weapon and can doe a break dancing routine where he electrocutes everything in the room. Jyuji can use the flame that is on his back as a Hadoken like attack and etc.
The music is just as amazing its just like the last games music which gives the surrounding theme of the game a great feeling. The graphics are still in the style of a cel shaded anime look, which I personally like. The graphics kind of remind me of other games like Jet Grind Radio and such. I almost forgot to mention that the character designs are made by the guys who did Trigun, Ah! My goddess, and Your Under Arrest. The story this time is much longer which thankfully makes the game longer
Now that were done talking about that I just want to talk about the characters a little bit. I think Gungrave is one of the best main characters I have ever seen in a game. Seriously you don’t see characters like him in a video game that often. I also consider the two other characters Jyuji and Rocketbilly to be some of the best secondary characters of all time. I just thought I get that out of the way since this game is just so cool.
Now its time to pick up your favorite gun and shoot down the bad things about this game. The camera could use some work since its stuck in one area and its hard to know what’s behind you in the later part of the games without turning your whole character around. There is replay value after you beat the game with Grave you can choose to play, as any of the two other characters, but the story isn’t different. Well that that I could tell. I think they needed to make their story different. They sadly did use English voice acting but its not bad but hey at least it wasn’t 4Kids that did it.
All and all, this was a great game. If you had to choose between the two Gungrave games I would recommend buying the second one and renting the first one. I wish there was another Gungrave game out. I would so play another one. This game is so underrated and I wish more people knew about it
This game gets a well-deserved 8 out of 10.
Now there are a lot of unknown Playstation 2 games around and not a lot get their just desserts. I just recently found out about this game, which is called Genji: Dawn of the Samurai and I thought it looked fun so I decided to give it a try. I put it in my game Q from Gamefly and then got it two days later. You never know what you might find in one game. After playing it for a couple days I now have an opinion on this game.
Now then the whole story revolves around a young two sword-wielding samurai named Yoshitune Minamoto who wields a magical item called Amahagane and must travel the land to stop an evil clan of destroying Japan. Basically its based off of an ancient Samurai tale which has been told many a time in Japan. Its kind of confusing so I will let you guys find out about it and see for yourselves.
Now on your journey through this dangerous time many characters including an old priest, her daughter and granddaughter accompany you, and a might monk named Benkei also joins the cause. Now the reason I told you the monk’s name is because you can also play as him. The game style is in the form of an action adventure-hack hand slash beat em up. You go around the vast land beating up the enemy soldiers and buying items and gaining weapons on your way through the land. Now the whole game kinds of plays through like a very intense Japanese action movie. I wouldn’t say it is as great as House of Flying daggers or 7 Samurai, but its still pretty interesting. Now like I said before the game style is in the form of a hack and slash beat em up since you run through certain areas and stop to beat down some enemies then move onto the next part kind of like Knights of the Round or Golden Axe. Now the final thing to talk about in this section is the magical item you wield with both characters. You can sue this item to slow down time and to counter attack an upcoming enemy attack.
The music is pretty great actually and fits the whole entire game. The graphics are well if you have played games like Dynasty Warriors you would understand they can be detailed but there not like Devil May Cry 3 or God of War 2 graphics. Another upbeat thing about this game is that its in Japanese and not with English subtitles which is pretty nice since sometimes the voice acting is pretty bad in these kinds of games.
I can tell I haven’t talked about something yet that I know I should, the playable characters. Yes you can only choose two characters but there all the force you will need. Yoshitusne is the fast attack character which makes this game pretty fun since its actually bloody, and Benkei is the strong two hits K.O. character that’s needed in these kind of games.
Even though this game is pretty good there are some major flaws in the game, which didn’t age well. The first thing ill talk about is the difficulty. Sometimes during the game the enemies can be as dumb as mud and just stand their while you chop them down one by one. When you need to equip items specifically for a certain part of the game like fighting a boss who can sue lightning attacks and etc, if you already equipped it to one character you can’t unequipped it unless you have another item that can replace the one that’s already equipped. Even though you got two players you choose from there is no two player, which is silly since it is calling for a two-player co-op mode. Since were talking about characters. The sad thing is that you will be favoring one character from another, which is more of a reason there needs to be a co-op mode.
My final conclusion is that it’s a good game I mean if you like Dynasty Warriors or Devil may Cry. This is just another overlooked title that you might just pass by on the shelves of your video game store. If you have Gamefly or something I would put ti on your list and try it out.
This game gets a 7.8 out of 10.
Ah yes, Deadly Creatures was a game I just couldn’t wait to play. I was waiting for another good Wii game since well besides some third party games and main Nintendo made games the roster is kind of short. Now that I got to play it and beat it the question now is, is it worth playing or just letting it stay on the shelves of your local Best Buy or video game store? Well let’s find out.
The whole game revolves around two men who are walking around the entire desert I think in Arizona or somewhere in the U.S who are trying to find a lost treasure which is buried somewhere in the desert. Now the most interesting is the story is shown between two unusual heroes, the scorpion and the tarantula. The whole story is shown through the vast and large adventure of the two creatures as you see twist and turns through the whole story as it ends with a very unusual and kind of well… spiritual ending. I can’t tell you guys the ending so go out and try it out yourselves.
Now the game play is in the style of an action adventure game where you switch off level after level as the two bugs. Now both bugs have unique and different techniques, which makes the game enjoyable. The scorpion is more of a tank like insect that uses heavy attacks and special death moves like you would see in God of War. The tarantula is more of a speedy ninja like character since it can jump and can pounce on the enemies without them knowing. You can also use web to blind opponents and to use it as a grappling hook like weapon to get to place to place. Now the enemy roster is unique in its own way. You got beetles, wolf spiders, praying mantis, tarantula wasp, rats, one of the humans, and even enemy tarantulas and scorpions. The cool thing about the beetles is that some are bombardier beetles that can shoot a rocket fuel like substance at you like a projectile meaning they are long-range enemies. A cool thing about wolf spiders is they are like well wolves they hunt in packs.
Now the graphics are pretty good for wii standards I mean they aren’t like Super Mario Galaxy or Twilight Princess, but they are good over all. There isn’t much music, which gives the game an ominous feel to it, which fits since I just am scared like the dickens about spiders. There are some points in the game where you might laugh but it’s only the final boss. You can also climb up walls and onto the ceiling which gives you a lot more freedom.
Now this game is fun I mean its unique amongst the wii games and I put it amongst games like No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki which stand amongst some of the east third party wii games. The story has interesting twist and turns through the whole game, which puts you on your feet to make you finish the story. Another interesting fact is that the two voice actors for the humans are Billy Bob Thorton and Denis Hopper. Pretty big names for such an unusual game like Deadly Creatures.
Sadly now is time to talk about the parts that this game well falls through the holes with. First off the camera is a little awkward since its stuck in one place and can freak out at certain times in the game when you’re climbing upside down and such. There are a couple glitches which can be annoying since its like they didn’t completely finish the game one example is when your fighting the final boss, as a scorpion you need to sting the human in a well very uncomfortable spot, but the two other times I need to sting him something goes screwy and I cant fully complete the task and forces me to use life.
All and all this is a really fun game. Its fun trying to find all the grubs so you can get all the art gallery and videos of the game. I would really recommend buying this game if you are looking for a fun good wii game
This game gets an 8 out of 10.
