Top 20 Nintendo 64 Games

This list is going to be very special to me since this was the first video game console I ever got. There is no denying the multiple fun and amazing classics on this console. Now then, let’s get started with Cam’s Eye View’s Top 20 Nintendo 64 games. Now. the only rule is one game per franchise. unless something comes up

20. Chameleon Twist 1& 2

Reason: one of the most underrated games on this list, I will start with the fun and unusual game, Chameleon Twist. Even though some people panned it for its difficulty, it was praised for its fun game play. I have to agree it is very fun to stick out your tongue and swallow multiple enemies and spit them out like a machine gun. I wonder if these chameleons know about Yoshi. The sequel was awesome too, because it stayed with what made the first game fun! Since both games were so much fun, let’s put both of them on the list.

19. Golden Eye.

Reason: now, I have to admit I’m not the biggest shooter fan, but when someone would bring Golden Eye, I just had to play. People consider this to be the best first-person shooter and the best James Bond game ever. I have to admit that they are right, it’s amazing!

18. Wave Race 64

Reason: one of the most interesting and fun racing games on the Nintendo 64. Wave Race was one of the launch title games for the Nintendo 64. It was like playing Mario Kart, but you were riding boats. The music and graphics were pretty impressive and it was just a fun game overall.

17. Hot Wheels Turbo Racing

Reason: Besides Duck Tales on the NES, Hot Wheels is one of the only few licensed games actually worth picking up. Now, this game is actually more like Mario Kart and Tony Hawk Pro Skater at the same time. The multiple amount of cars, crazy tracks, tricky challenges - it was a full package!

16. F-Zero X

Reason: This is the hardest of the franchises in my opinion. F-Zero X was fast and tricky with its roller coaster-like tracks, and aggressive opponents. Speed was the name of the game. Now, where is next in the franchise for the Wii?

15. Pokemon Stadium 1

Reason: Before Pokemon had millions of different types, there were only 150 Pokemon. You could select a team of 6 Pokemon to choose from the rental section or use your own Pokemon from your Gameboy games. I wish the latest Pokemon games were this good.

14. Hydro Thunder

Reason: maybe the greatest boat-racing game ever made. Hydro Thunder was teeth-crunching fast and fun. Able to choose from multiple boats, playing on different tracks, and able to unlock more! Good news for Hydro Thunder Fans. There is a sequel coming out, and it will be just as good as the last game!

13. Vigilante 8, 2nd Offense

Reason: man, this fun little series was amazing on the Nintendo 64. It was like the battle mode in Mario Kart, but with real cars and real missiles. My favorite though has to be the garbage truck, since you can pick up enemies and put them through the trash compactor in the back. Now, if I could only find a copy of it nowadays.

12. Mario Party

Reason: Before there were a million sequels to this game, Mario Party was amazing! It was nothing like Mario had ever done before. The mini games were fun and creative. Even though Mario Party 8 hasn’t gotten as much praise as the first, Mario Party will still be a fun alternative to Halo 3 fanatics.

11. Yoshi Story

Reason: an unusually cute game, Yoshi’s Story was a direct sequel to the hit Super Nintendo game. Out with baby Mario and in with collecting 30 pieces of fruit. I don’t see why a lot of people didn’t like this game. It was fun and creative.

10. Donkey Kong 64

Reason: If you grew up playing Donkey Kong Country, this game made you blow your brains right out of your head. Just as in games like Mario and Mystical Ninja, Donkey Kong had to travel all across the island to save his friends and to beat K.Rool. The best part of the game, besides the amazing graphics and fun multiple moves, is you get to play as four other Kongs. This game was one of the best.

9. Kirby 64
Reason: the best 3D Kirby game ever! Kirby kept the side-scrolling theme the same, but in beautiful 3D, and having the ability to combine two powers! This game is the full package, just like any game on here.

8. Star Fox 64

Reason: one of the multiple launch titles, Star Fox was amazing. It was like a facelift from the Super Nintendo Star Fox. Now, you could buy this game alone or you could get it with the rumble pack to make the game more enjoyable. Star Fox is back and ready to protect his galaxy once again.

7. Mario Kart 64

Reason: one of the best racing games ever, Mario Kart 64 was phenomenal! 8 characters to play as, multiple items, it had everything. It even had the annoying fan favorite, Yoshi’s Valley, which has caused many a gamer to swirl off the track for many years.

6. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

Reason: The Mystical Ninja series has always been a kind of popular underground series, but people need to know, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is amazing. If you’re down with silly humor, satisfying game play, and amazing graphics for the Nintendo 64, I recommend you pick this one up.

5. Conker’s Bad Furday

Reason: yet another underrated game for the Nintendo 64. Even though everyone knows about this game, it didn’t do well on the market, due to low advertising. Conker’s Bad Furday really pushed the limit of the ability of the Nintendo 64. This game had a lot of fun aspects and unique style of game play which makes this a must get if you’re 18 or older. This game will always have a place in gamers’ hearts and the great mighty Poo song in those hearts also.

4. Super Smash Brothers

Reason: now, how can I make a top 20 Nintendo 64 list without mentioning this fine fighting game right here? Well, you couldn’t. Super Smash Brothers took characters from their best franchises and pitted them against each other with awesome weapons and great stages, fighting for the win.

3. Legend of Zelda Orcarina of Time

Reason: Declared one of the best games, or literally “the best game of all time”. Orcarina of Time really brought that out in the Zelda series. Now, Link is fully 3D and the game play is twice as fun as the NES and SNES games. Beating Ganon never looked so good.

2. Super Mario 64

Reason: seriously do I need to explain why this game is on the list? It was named as one of the best games ever made! It took Mario who was already popular in the world, and made him 3D. It took what a 2D game franchise had, and showed how to make it 3D, the right way. Let’s see, hmm, Sonic in 3D hmmm…nope, no. Mario wins in the 3D world.

1. Banjo Tooie

Reason: even though some people will get pissed for not putting Zelda or Mario first on the list, I think this game deserves a place at number 1. It is such a fun game, which will keep bringing you back for more and more, even if you have beaten it 5 million times.
